A baby taken away from its mother and never comes back

Murtanti, 33, lost her newly-born baby on Friday evening at Kembangan health center in West Jakarta, and she said Monday that she would not leave the health center without her baby, Tempointeraktif.com reported.

Murtanti gave birth to a boy on Friday morning. While the baby was on her lap, a lady disguising herself as a nurse came to her and told her that she would take the baby for immunization. Without hesitancy, Murtanti gave the baby to her. Hours later, she realized that the baby was taken away by an unidentified person.

Murtanti, accompanied by her sister Lestari, reported the case to the health center chief, who faulted her why she gave the baby to a lady wearing no uniforms. But Murtanti argued that no nurses wore uniforms that day. The health center chief, identified as Dara, then acknowledged that the nurses were not required to wear uniforms on every Friday.

Since the incident, the health center required all nurses to wear uniforms on all days, complete with health center ID cards.

Lestari then reported the case to the Kembangan police. Kembangan police chief Comr. Barnabas Imam Setiyono said that the police had questioned five witnesses, including Lestari, Murtanti, her husband Edi Sugianto, security guard Winoto and a nurse.

Police suspect that the baby kidnapping was conducted by a baby trading syndicate.
