Over one hundred students in Sukabumi poisoned

Cibadak, Sukabumi (ANTARA News) - At least 107 students of Ibtidaiyah Islamic Elementary School (Madrasah) in Cicantayan sub district in Sukabumi, West Java, were poisoned after consuming fresh milk on Monday morning.

The milk was distributed free to the students every three months as part of a Sukabumi district administration program but about one hour after drinking the free milk the students felt queasy and dizzy.

Dozens of them were rushed to Sekarwangi General Hospital in Cibadak for medical treatment because they vomited several times after consuming the allegedly contaminated milk.

Dr Cecep Sutisnya, who was on duty at the hospital, said the students were probably poisoned but he would conduct a laboratory test to determine if they were victims of accidental poisoning.

Meanwhile, Entin Sutini, a teacher at the school, said that at 8 in the morning the milk was distributed to around 236 students and one hour after that 99 of them started vomiting, feeling queasy and getting weak while the number of victims continued to increase.
