An official search and rescue team is on the lookout for three doctors who were not among the rescued after their ferry bound for Asmat, Papua, capsized Wednesday evening.

According to Asmat Police chief, Korwa, the three doctors -- Wendi Sitompul, Boyke Mowoka and Hendi Prakoso -- were on board the ferry Risma Jaya, when it capsized in Arafura waters due to heavy weather and high waves.

The search and rescue crew is a joint effort of military personnel and police officers from the area.

The ferry was carrying 27 passengers in all of whom 19 were medical practitioners; all have been rescued except the three physicians.

The medical team was on temporary assignment to Asmat regency, a remote region in Papua province. (amr)
