A pregnant woman gave birth on a Jakarta-Bogor economy train near Depok, West Java, on Tuesday.
Fatmawati, a resident of Bogor, West Java, caught the train from Depok station. Just minutes afterwards, she suddenly gave birth, much to the shock of other passengers.
The passengers notified the conductor and when the train stopped at the next station, they took her to a nearby midwife.
The midwife, Siti Masliah, told Metro TV that the baby’s placenta was still attached to the mother when they arrived at the clinic. The baby girl, who weighed three kilograms, was in stable condition but the mother was shocked after the sudden birth.
Siti said Fatmawati likely came from a poor family. She refused to answer any other questions.
