Boediono Cries as He Remembers His Father During Disability Day Commemoration

The Jakarta Globe

Vice President Boediono shed tears when giving a speech to commemoratate the International Day of Disability at the Vice Presidential Palace on Thursday.

“My father was also disabled. He lost his sight at the peak of his life (and was blind) until he died,” Boediono said.

He said that his father never gave up on life and always strived to give his family everything they needed.

“Disability should never become a constraint to live life, like my father showed with his life,” he said.

“It’s too bad that my father could not see his son become the Vice President,” Boediono said, with tears rolling down his face. He wiped away the tears and apologized.

“My dear brothers and sisters, please forgive me for being a little bit emotional but I am deeply moved by the commemoration of the day of disability,” he said.

Boediono asked everyone to help the disabled and ordered members of the cabinet to provide facilities for them.
