Governor orders all health centers to install CCTV

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo has asked for the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the delivery rooms of all community health centers across the capital in a bid to improve security at the facilities.

The request comes against the backdrop of the abduction of a newborn baby at Kembangan community health center in West Jakarta early this month. The suspected abductor was arrested and the baby reunited with his parents on Thursday.

“The provincial government expects the abduction will be the last to happen in our health facilities. We will tighten security and adopt a standard of service that will prevent the crime from recurring,” Fauzi said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.

Head of the provincial health agency Dien Emawati said visiting hours would be reduced to between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. only. Companions of patients will be given special ID cards and access to babies will be restricted.
