Jakarta Globe

Tanah Abang Police arrested an alleged drug dealer with 20 kg of marijuana in his possession in a rented room in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

Police said the suspect Danis Syahrilla Siregar, 35, had begun working as a dealer after he went to Aceh to take part in volunteer work after the tsunami.

“The suspect started selling marijuana after he became a volunteer after the tsunami in Aceh where he met with a local dealer with the initials AH,” said Tanah Abang Police chief Comr. Luthfie Sulistiawan on Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Police received a tip-off that Danis would conduct a transaction at Rawasari Market in Cempaka Putih on Monday. Police followed up the information and arrested the suspect on the scene. Danis told the police he kept the goods in his rented room.

“He said his job was to sell the marijuana for Rp 1.7 million ($185) per kilogram. The money was to be transferred to Aceh,” Lutfie said.
