An 8 centimeter nail pierced the eye of a man in Nanjing and became lodged in his head, fortunately missing all the major blood vessels in the brain, reports the People's Daily.
The
accident occurred when the man, surnamed Yang, from Hebei, was refurnishing the
floor of his home toward the end of last month. He felt something in his left
eye and heard a noise as he was cutting material for the floor. He noticed a
little blood, but as he was not in much pain he did not give the irritation
much notice.
The next
morning he woke up with a serious headache and found his eye had swollen up. On
going to a hospital, he was told by doctors that he had a nail stuck in his
eye. The nail was 8cm long, and had entered Yang's head past the side of the
eyeball.
"The
nail missed all the important vessels and nerves and there is no bleeding in
the brain. This is rare. The patient is very lucky," said his doctor, who
added that the nail flew into Yang's eye at high speed.
The doctor
removed the nail in a four-hour operation.
