A man suffering from a 200kg tumor growing on his waist entered the 304 Hospital of the PLA in Beijing this week to accept treatment. The tumor has grown significantly over the past two years and kept the man confined to his bed, reports the Party-run Beijing Youth Daily.
Yang
Jianbin from Shanxi province said the tumor appeared on his waist when he was
in elementary school. Although he went through several treatments, none of them
have prevented the tumor from growing again. His family relies on a grape field
in their village in Jinzhong's Yuci district for income and cannot afford more
treatments.
However,
the growing tumor has spread to his waist and right leg, reaching 1.2 meters
long and weighing over 200kg. Swelled blood veins are clearly visible on the
dark greenish tumor. It has affected Yang's movement, inflamed his nose than
others and thinned out his right leg. Although it does not cause any pain if
not pressed, Yang can only sit or lay on the bed and cannot work.
His father
sold the family's land and brought his son to the hospital, hoping to remove
the tumor for good. Doctors said the tumor grows rapidly and could turn
malignant. The surgery involved would be difficult and could costs 500,000 yuan
(US$80,600), which Yang's family has not figured out how to pay.
