A Chinese couple now in their late 50s spent their life savings on fertility treatment and have successfully given birth to a pair of twins, reports Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po newspaper.
Wu Muxiang,
now 57, and her husband were devastated when their only child, a son, died of a
cerebral embolism aged 26, eight months before his wedding.
"My
children are my life," said Wu, who has recently been released from the
hospital after giving birth the a pair of twins, a boy and a girl. It took the
couple nine attempts at IVF and all their savings to get to this point.
Their
effort did not go without challenges. The twins arrived almost nine weeks
before they were due and were placed in an intensive care unit immediately
after birth. They are now doing well.
"All I
wish everyday now is to see my children during visiting hours," Wu said.
