Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) considered jamu (medicinal herbs) a sector that deserves support during and after the global financial crisis.
"The jamu industry is a sector that should be supported during and after the crisis," Kadin's General Chairman, M.S. Hidayat said here Thursday.
He said that there were a lot of fundamental problems to be solved in the industry such as the lack of research and study, lack of knowledge about the benefits of jamu of the young generation and the lack of socialization of standardized herbal medicines.
"I have made an agreement with the government to issue short term regulations to cope with the crisis which makes the business more difficult," he said.
His office would also recommend the rearrangement of a number of overlapping regulations to create a conducive business condition in the country.
"The jamu industry was a legacy of our predecessors which could be made an Indonesian potential product," he added.
In relation to the global crisis, Kadin earlier had made some recommendations to the government such as sustainability in banking and financial sector, policy implementation acceleration in the industrial sector and strengthening domestic economy.
