TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari has acknowledged that Indonesia’s human development index is still low.
Last year, Indonesia was in 108th position out of 177 countries in the world.
“Much lower than ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) neighboring countries, such as the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore,” she said during the ceremony celebrating “National Health Day,” at the Senayan Sports Hall, Monday (12/11).
The human development index, said Siti, was determined by several indicators: health, education and economy.
From the aspect of health, the indicator is life-span expectancy.
According to Siti, health factors determine society’s productivity very much as productivity will influence economic development.
Therefore, the government is making efforts to develop health.
One of the ways, said Siti, is society-based health development for example, with the Alert Village program which is expected to be able to prevent and overcome health and disaster problems.
In addition, “The government must also keep repairing health centers, hospitals and the Insurance for the Poor program,” she said.
