Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian First Lady Ani Yudhoyono along with thousands of people marched from the National Monument (Monas) park to the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta to commemorate National Osteoporosis Day on Sunday.
The vice president`s wife Mufidah Jusuf Kalla and Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari took part in the march of 10,000 steps until the section of Thamrin Street outside Sarinah department store.
Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono said the government, in this case the Health Ministry, had a commitment to handling osteoporosis as number of the cases is quite high in the country.
"Data of the Health Ministry on osteoporosis in 16 provinces show that two of every five people in Indonesia have a risk of developing osteoporosis, higher than the world`s average of only one in every three people," she said.
Meanwhile, Minister Fadilah said unhealthy lifestyle, imbalanced nutrition and lack of calcium intake posed a high risk of osteoporosis.
The government thus continued supporting osteoporosis preventive efforts, she said.
