TEMPO Interactive, Kupang:The mortality rate of mothers in Kupang regency, East Nusa Tenggara, is high. “From January until March, four mothers died during delivery,” said Kupang Health Office chief, Messe Ataupah, in Kupang yesterday.
The cases took place in the villages of Poto, Tarus, Oesao, and Takari.
In 2009, 17 mothers died in this area, higher than the national standard of eight mothers dying during delivery in one year.
According to Ambar, one major reason for this is that a mother who is about to have a baby must wait for the family to decide whether she needs to be referred to a hospital or not.
