"The first HIV/AIDS cases were discovered in Jambi in 1999 when we found three people infected," said a member of the foundation, S.T. Parlaungan Siregar, on Monday.
He said the infection continued to spread every year. Four infected persons were diagnosed in 2000, 12 in 2001, 15 in 2002, 23 in 2003, 36 in 2004, 58 in 2005, 53 in 2006 and 29 up to June, 2007.
Parlaungan said most of the HIV/AIDS cases were caused by drug use.
"Of 78 cases, 68 percent were infected through shared syringes," he added.
