PALU, Central Sulawesi (Jakarta Post): The Palu administration has allocated Rp 700 million (US$77,700) from its regional funds to provide free health treatment to the poor.
The head of Anutapura Hospital, Dr Renny A. Lamadjido, said it was part of the "poor family care" program established in early 2007.
"The program is supposed to accommodate poor people, who have not been served by the Health Insurance Program for the poor," said Renny.
According to Renny the fund is allocated to provide oxygen and various kinds of medicines to poor people.
We have to avoid a double budget in this program because it will confuse the auditor," she said.
To benefit from the program, people need statements from their sub-district offices confirming eligibility.
Palu Mayor Rusdy Mastura demanded sub-district heads be selective in certifying residents.
"I won't go easy on anyone who gives documents to well-off people," he added.
