JAKARTA: Jakarta Police confirmed Monday that the woman found dead inside a suitcase last month was Evi Darlina Boru Bukit, also known as Cut Debi.
City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Zulkarnain said the victim's identity was revealed after the identification team completed a DNA test by taking samples from the dead body and comparing them with samples from the victim's family.
"The police found that the DNA of the victim matched that of her relatives," Zulkarnain told reporters at police headquarters.
"Therefore, this provides confirmation that the victim is indeed Evi Darlina Boru Bukit, as claimed by her family."
The body was found inside a suitcase on Tanjung Priok toll road in North Jakarta on Jan. 18.
After seeing media reports, the victim's housemate recognized the dead body as Cut Debi, who had not come home since the day before the discovery.
Meanwhile, a family from North Sumatra also came to the police to identify the body, claiming it was Evi.
Evi had not seen her family since 1998.
After completing DNA tests and questioning witnesses, the police confirmed Evi and Cut Debi was the same person.
