(ANTARA) Denpasar (ANTARA News) - Health Minister Endang Sedyaningsih said rabies outbreaks in Bali should be managed intensively to free the Indonesian resort island from the disease.
"Management of rabies in Bali should be intensified by vaccinating dogs and giving anti-rabies vaccine to people who need it," the health minister said in Jimbaran on Friday.
She made the statement after opening "The Confederation of Medical Associations in Asia and Oceania (CMAAO)" in Jimbaran district, Bali, on Friday.
According to her, the government had taken rabies management measures through the distribution of rabies vaccine and VAR.
"The central government has distributed rabies vaccine and VAR, and if rabies cases still occur, I will coordinate it again with the regional government to get more valid report about it, because according to previous reports Bali is already free from rabies," Endang Seyaningsih said.
About the Health Ministry`s program in the future, the minister said she would prioritize four main programs, namely fulfillment of people`s individual right to get health service through public health insurance (Jamkesmas, the improvement of public health through the acceleration and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the prevention of contagious diseases following natural disasters, and even distribution of health workers to remote areas, small islands, and border areas.
"Regarding the public health insurance (Jamkesmas), I will try to give health insurance to the poor who are not registered at the Health Ministry," the minister said.
Endang said she would take data of the people at orphanages, old people`s homes, as well as tramps and give them insurance cards so that they could get better health services.
"The Health Ministry will also try to pay for the Jamkesmas arrears," Endang Sedyaningsih said.
