JAKARTA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- A German Red Cross worker was shot in Aceh province of Indonesia by unidentified gunmen, a local Indonesian Red cross official said on Friday.
Erhard Bauer of 50 years old, head of representative of German Red Cross in the province at the northern tip of Sumatra island, was shot when he was riding a car on the outskirts of Banda Aceh, the capital of the province by two gunmen riding motorcycle, Chief of the Indonesian Red Cross in Aceh province Bustari Mansyur said.
"The shooting hurt Bauer arm and stomach," Mansyur told Xinhua over phone.
The shooting led the international organization suspend activities in Aceh on Friday, but they would resume working on Saturday.
"We suspend our work today and will continue to work tomorrow," he said.
Police were investigating the incident.
Aceh province had been engaged in three-decade bloody conflict between Jakarta and Aceh rebel, that killed over 15,000 people before the peace accord reached in August 2005.
