KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara (Jakarta Post) : Two children have died and 36 others have been hospitalized following an outbreak of dengue fever in Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province, over the last two weeks.
Kupang Health Office data Monday listed the two casualties as Elisabeth Roho Lado, 5, and Antonio Deastin, 4.
According to the data, the largest number of infected children was in Oebobo district, where 11 cases were reported, followed by Kelapa Lima with 10 cases, Maulafa with eight cases and Alak with seven cases.
Yovita Mitak, director of Kupang's general hospital, admitted there was a surge in the number of dengue fever patients at the hospital.
The local city administration has taken measures to help prevent the spread of the disease through, among others, the distribution of "abate" powder to kill mosquitoes.
