The police in Batam, Riau Islands, have found a total of 504 sacks or 25 tons of magnesium sulfate, an ingredient to make sabu-sabu (methyl amphetamine), in an industrial complex in Batam.
"This finding is a result of our long, intensive investigation," Batam police chief Sr. Comr. Leonidas Braksan told Tempointeraktif.com on Sunday.
Leonidas explained that initially, the police arrested Udin and Pardiyos, who brought with him two grams of methyl amphetamine on Nov. 8. From their arrest, the police then nabbed Anton alias Guru at a hotel in Batam.
From these suspects, the police traced where the drug came from, and they found that they methyl amphetamine was supplied from Pekanbaru, Riau. Then, the Batam police coordinated with the police in Pekanbaru.
"From there (Pekanbaru), we know that there is a big plan to build a methyl amphetamine factory in Batam," Leonidas said.
Meanwhile, Riau Islands Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Anggaria Lopis said that the magnesium sulfate, the main ingredient for methyl amphetamine, was shipped from Malaysia.
According to the suspects, Anggaria said, the methyl amphetamine from their factory would be sold in the domestic market, mainly Jakarta, Medan, Pekanbaru and Batam, where they have already the networks.
