Maldives Customs Service had seized a large amount of drugs which were to be smuggled into the country.
Speaking at a press conference Director Intelligence and Special Operations, Abdul Rasheed Ibrahim said that Indian national Abdul Rasool Khan Abdul Mukhthalif was arrested regarding the case who, who was transiting in Maldives.
According to customs when his luggage was scanned customs officials suspected of something hidden with his garments. When the officials checked a cardboard box among his luggage there was another box inside it and a PVC mat was inserted into the area between the two boxes. Inside there was a polythene bag which contained a white powder which weighed 5 KG was positive for catamine and cocaine according to the laboratory tests.
The man is believed to be traveling to Indonesia through Malaysia and his passport indicates that he had travelled to Indonesia 4 times during the July and November from different Indian airports.
According to the Customs this is the first time he had traveled to Maldives and he agreed that he was sent to Indonesia by a friend in Chennai to deliver some packages to a friend in Indonesia.
This is the largest amount of drugs seized by the Maldives Customs.
According to the reports authorities had seized this year 47% more drugs than last year. The drugs and the case had already been handed over to Police for investigation.
