Jakarta Police's narcotics division announced Wednesday it had arrested a suspect for possession of more than 4,000 ecstasy pills and allegedly running a drug factory in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.
Division chief Sr. Comr. Anjan Pramuka Putra said the police had arrested JY, 60, the suspect, in the parking lot of Seasons City shopping mall, West Jakarta, last week when he brought 4,450 ecstasy pills worth around Rp 160 million (US$16,960).
The police then raided JY’s rented house in Taman Lestari housing complex in Cengkareng and found a drug-manufacturing facility together with 150,000 diazepam pills and 388,000 ephedrine pills.
Ephedrine can be used to produce ecstasy and crystal methamphetamine.
“We believe the suspect distributed the homemade ecstasy in Jakarta and other big cities in Indonesia,” Anjan told reporters, adding that the police were now pursuing AC, a Malaysian national, who allegedly supplied the drugs ingredients to JY.
Last month, the police raided another house in the complex, confiscating more than 10,000 ecstasy pills and 11 kilograms of raw ingredients used to make crystal methamphetamine worth around Rp 5 billion (US$530,000).
